The Best Christmas Light Displays at homes in Waterdown/Flamborough December 2022

Looking for something to do with your kids one evening in the Waterdown/Flamborough community? Check out these spectacular Christmas light displays that the local homeowners worked hard on this year.

Brookhurst Crescent (Neighbourhood Collab!)

This street gives off major holiday vibes. If it's a decent evening I suggest grabbing a hot chocolate and strolling the crescent as a majority of the homes participate in the festivities. 


Corner of Pamela and Boulding

Take a short drive from Brookhurst Crescent to the corner of Pamela Street and Boulding Ave. This house is sure to impress as it features a vibrant light display spanning from the front to the back of the home. 


Chatsworth Crescent (2 houses in from Hollybush)

In West Waterdown these homeowners go all out every year. They take advantage of their whole frontage by covering their home and lawn with Christmas lights and decorations filling their space with holiday magic. 


16 Weneil Dr, Freelton

Seniors' Guide: Downsizing and Decluttering

It’s easy for anyone to collect things overtime but it can be especially true if you’re a senior. From junk drawers to items in the basement collecting dust or boxes in closets or under beds that have been there for so long that you don’t even remember what’s in them. Maybe you’re even storing items for adult children who have long since moved out. Some people are sentimental, some people get busy, and some just forget about all the extra items they have. Now you’re thinking about selling your home which can already be an extremely emotional time and you have the added stress of decluttering a lifetimes worth of items.


As a Seniors' Real Estate Specialist® I understand that downsizing is not simply a real estate transaction. I have the knowledge and skills to guide you through the emotional challenges that can arise when selling your long term family home. I can effectively assist you with your transition into a new living situation that is the best suited for you based on your indiviual circumstances. A large part of downsizing involves decluttering. As a client of mine I can connect you with my network of professionals such as cleaning and decluttering services. However, you may choose to declutter on your own. If that is the case I have put together some decluttering tips for you. Whether you are a senior or you are supporting a senior who needs to declutter I recommend taking a slow approach.


Make 3 piles:
1. must keep
2. must go
3. must think about.

Your must keep pile is all of the essentials and the things you feel you cannot live without.

Your must go pile should be separated into further piles: 
•Items you will gift
•Items you will sell 
•Items you will donate 
•Items you can recycle 
•Items that must be thrown out 

Set a date for when you will return to your must think about pile. Keep in mind that if it’s not sentimental and you haven’t used it in a few years then you can probably live without it so it can be moved to your must go pile.


If you’re helping a senior through this process please take the time to listen to the stories, be patient, and respect their wishes. If it becomes too difficult for them then come back to this on another day.

Selling Your Home in the Winter

Thinking of selling during the winter months? In this market you can almost expect that your home is going to be a high foot traffic zone. You’ll likely have back to back showings over the course of a few days. Here are some tips to make this process easier on you (and potential buyers) when you list your home in the winter.

1. Clear the snow

Clear the snow from the sidewalk, driveway, walkways, front steps, and porch. Potential buyers want to view your entire property so don't neglect clearing snow the snow from the walkway leading into your backyard and your deck and/or patio. Don't forget to use salt! You want potential buyers to have a safe and enjoyable experience when they view your property.


2. Use floor mats

Place a welcome mat on your doorstep to collect some of the snow and salt from people’s shoes before they enter your home. Place a large mat inside your doorway to protect your floors from snow covered boots. Remember that between the agent and their clients you have 2-3 people coming into your home at the same time. Everyone wants to quickly escape the cold so a large mat will give everyone enough space to enter your home and take off their boots at the same time.


3. Keep your home at a comfortable temperature
Typically 20 degrees Celsius is a comfortable temperature. You want your home to feel warm and welcoming instead of frigid. A cold home may have some people wondering if there is an issue with the heating system.  Keep in mind you also don’t want it to be too hot!


It's a combination of little touches that add up to make your property stand out.
